Sgrios Mass: Prayer for Mortality
I believe most of you have known that I’ve been ill for the last couple weeks - and thank you for the prayers and consolations during my difficult period. It was not an entirely unproductive time, as I used the bedrest to finish my work for submission to the college. Admittedly, my wrist is as sore as my poor lungs. In interest of sparing myself a coughing fit I thought I’d give a brief sermon today -- very few ever complain about me being brief… on the rare occasions that actually happens. While I was bedridden, I had a lot of time to think about my mortality. A narrative written in blood and phlegm, it’s always difficult to sort out which bed will ultimately be your death bed. While we can do our best to tend to our ailments, ultimately we do not get to pick the time and place of our death. Great hands control our fate, chiefly among the gods, our great lord Sgrios.
