Sgrios Mass: The Dark Brotherhood of Sgrios and Deoch
Sermon prepared and delivered by High Priest VanMorgan
Tonight we will be discussing the relationship between Deoch and Sgrios. The Temple Attendants tell us that Deoch was once the god of Debauchery and is the god of inspiration. I must say it was something of a topic here in the Temple "back in the Deoch." While we were out murdering Aislings in the Mileth Crypts, we had to wonder exactly what kind of things were going on over in Suomi. It was quite salacious when we tested members and they asked what debauchery meant. I mean this in no disrespectful way, it is simply the truth.
But let us look to the inspirational part of Deochs facets. From acts of sensuality to the inspiration for the greatest works of art and beyond are what Deoch influences. That is no small feat. So now, how does all this pertain to Sgrios?
It is true that Deoch is a Dubhaim God and therefore "related" to Sgrios. But according to Sgrian dogma, that is not the MAIN reason he is our ally. Deoch created the first Aislings, we owe our very lives to him. But it is also that life that Sgrios feeds upon. If you listen to how the Temple Attendants tell it, Sgrios is but a parasite feeding on you slowly every time you die. While that is true to a degree, it is not the whole story.
Deoch created us, Sgrios feeds on us, they are BOTH Dubhaimid: this could just as plausibly be a symbiotic relationship than a one sided parasitic one. Now, you may disagree, and that is fine. Parasitic or symbiotic, the end result is Deoch creating the very lives that Sgrios feeds upon is WHY we view that as a reason above them simply being related. If you wanted to put it succinctly, we dont know what kind of agreement they have amongst themselves or what greater powers are at play.
Now let us turn our attention to Sgrios. Again, to hear the Temple Attendants tell it, all we seek is to watch the sky rain fire. While that IS a beautiful thing, Sgrios is far more dynamic than that. There is decay or entropy. All things will decay, fade, and die. We simply have to be patient enough. Hence why patience is considered a virtue of the Sgrian faith. Then there is the aspect of death and destruction that we achieve through our ally Ceannlaidir. I could not tell you how many young warriors have come in here in the past wanting to join simply for the bloodlust of death and destruction they seek through battle.
Every creature you slay, every leaf that decays on the forest floor, every fire that spreads, has the hand of our Lord in it. He is more dynamic and vast than some might imagine.
Now back to Deoch, our beloved sensual and inspirational ally. We gain from him something even MORE powerful than slaughter and destruction. The idea of destruction. The inspiration of it! To plan it. To carry it out. You can stop a war, you can kill an Aisling, it is MUCH harder to kill an idea. this is what makes Sgrians treacherous, cunning, and unyielding. Deoch helps us understand not just the subtle aspects of decay, but the outright obliteration of things.
Knowledge is powerful. Can inspiration be a form of information? Why not? Without the balance of Cail to hold Sgrios in check, I would say the lessons we learn from our inspirations from Deoch would make Sgrios one of the most formidable forces in the world.
So in conclusion, do nto take for granted our ally Deoch. Embrace what his inspiration has to teach us. The next time you pass through Suomi, smile to yourself and say a prayer. Step into his Temple to say a blessing. We have much to be thankful for.
