Sgrios Mass: Van's Used Book Club III - The Second Affront to Luathas by Shota

Tonight we'll be talking about "The Second Affront to Luathas." These are the written excerpts. It is part of the tome chronicling the Shadow Wars and the role the Academi Arcanus played in it. I'll present the dates to let you keep track. It throws us right into the tome.

 Danaan 1703 5th Moon 3rd-20th Days

So a mage named Tezerah Thoth has two apprentices go missing (as one does, right?) and Logan - yes THAT Logan in the temple of Choosing - had him confined to his quarters. They search his study and find his research had gone into "dark areas." An ancient black stone tablet etched with dire glyphs thought to have been from Kadath, was found behind a row of books.

Now there are texts that speak of Aosda "opening a portal to Kadath" and releasing the Darkness within. Also, Kadath is where the Dubhaim are believed to have come from.

The tablet they found contained knowledge of a yet unknown 5th and 6th element.

Now comes along this man who is found poisoned. Very convenient. He confessed in a note to the murders and to framing Thoth. In his note he claimed to be Jaalyn Sarag's (the First Wizard) descendant. And that the secrets of Kadath whispered to him in the Darkness. In this he wrote prophecy. His obsession with his research drove him to madness.

-- Everyone stop and take note. Exposure to Kadath, be it in dreams, or if it reaches out its tendrils across the planes to caress or speak to you somehow - BEWARE. It has the ability to bestow Prophecy, give the gift of discernment and precognition. It can also cause obsessiveness and drive you to madness. All of this had been mentioned in one scroll or another in the Library. Kadath equals danger.

Danaan 1703 10th Moon 19th Day

Thoth's research is allowed to resume as he was exonerated. On this day he revealed the discovery of the "Dark Element" to Logan and the Council. Logan was not happy and ordered everything sealed in iron and that every person there swear to secrecy.

Guess what? That did not last.

Thoth was not only exposed as a traitor - big surprise - but actively summoning the "Dubhaimid" as they had now been called.

It starts off small and over the course of a year it escalates substantially.

Where small dumhaimid once roamed, now massive ones run wild. They had grown to "almost the size of a pony." Imagine the looks on their faces seeing that for the first time ever.

Meanwhile, this Thoth fella has been killed by dubhaimid in his jail cell. Then his body was found missing as if it had "burst out of its grave." Then he's spotted alive again.

This man is like a cat and frankly I'm not sure I can even explain it all to you.

Suffice it to say, he got into some bad magic.

All the while Rucesion has been put on lock down and the wizards have barricaded the city gates against the Dubhaimid. It was quite the spectacle.

Danaan 1706 1st Moon 1st Day

A full 3 years after all this had first began the wizards gathered to swear to fight the rising horde of the Dubhaimid. An Avatar of Luathas himself is to have appeared at this meeting.

The War of Shadows would rage for the next 1400 years.

    That's the abridged version

The read is a little slanted towards Luathas in general. Whether intentional, I am not sure. I do know Luathas was Aosdan. The Aosdans had first hand knowledge of Kadath. He would have known about Kadath, the Dark Element, the Light Element. And seen the fall of Aosda. He has a definite limit to that "lore and knowledge" you can seek under him.

I'm not smart enough to put all this together.

But I am paranoid enough to know where there is room for conspiracy.
